Art historian Walter Storms opened his galleries in 1977. From the beginning, the gallery program has been focused on Concrete Art, Minimal and Conceptual Art and is strongly in the German ZERO tradition. Since 1980 Walter Storms represents Günther Uecker in many solo shows and organized exhibitions in international institutions and museums, like Tretjakow Gallery, Moscow, Museum of 20th Century, Vienna. The gallery manages artists' estates, including that of Günter Fruhtrunk. Walter Storms is the founder and chairman of the Günter Fruhtrunk Association and produced the complete catalog raisonné of the important German painter. The gallery runs its own book publishing house for prints and artists' books. Young artists are recruited from various art academies and their active promotion through scholarships and donations to museums is an honorary matter of the heart for the gallery. The gallery operates now three locations and a large sculpture garden. The spacious 500 sqm exhibition hall in the center of Munich's Kunstareal surrounded by museums and Pinakotheken opened in 2009 with a show by was Sean Scully. The gallery participated in the art fairs ARCO Madrid, Art Basel, Art Berlin, Art Chicago, Art Frankfurt, Shanghai Art Fair and has been permanently represented at Art Cologne for 38 years. The gallery sees itself as a partner of the artists and works from the beginning only directly with the artists.
