Project Description
For their Armory presentation, Bockley Gallery will show the work of two emerging artists whose work considers history, language, and the experience of indigenous people in the US. Dyani White Hawk (Sičangu Lakota) combines painting with the traditions of Lakota quillwork and beading techniques to create abstract works that critique the lack of visibility of Native artists within the artistic canon and the hierarchies inherent within the colonization of both land and people. The video and photographic work of Sky Hopinka (Ho-Chunk/Pechanga) centers around his personal reflections of history, landscape, and language and the interplay between fact and fiction in the story of our country’s founding.
