Wilmer Wilson IV

Measures not Men

2017
Location: Pier 92 Back to Platform Exhibitors

Curator's Statement

Wilson occupies Pier 92’s Publications Lounge to reprise a historical act of publishing. Carved on both sides of salt licks are two versions of text from Fire Bill’s 1919 letter to a Mississippi newspaper threatening to “burn the entire state” if lynching of Black people did not cease. Wilson’s cutting gestures revive the complex power of editing (and editorializing) to incite violence—or resistance.
